Ki o rahi

Last Thursday coach Chelsea came to Room 6 to tell us about a Maori game called Ki o rahi. We are going to learn how to play it this term. We watched a movie about how Rahi saved Tiara from Patupaiarehe.

After that we went out under the canopy for a game. It was raining so we had to play there. We got into two teams and one was Taniwha and the other one was Kioma. It was fun. I am looking forward to learning how to play Ki o rahi this week. There are two teams and seven people in each team. We play with a small ball called a ki.

Making a tree hut

Last term Room 6 made tree huts. I brought ice cream containers and egg cartons to school to build my tree hut. I was very excited in the last week of term because we were going to build every single day of the week.

At the beginning I decided to glue two ice cream containers together to make a big square. Mrs Yumul helped me with the glue gun because it gets very hot and dangerous for children.

After that I used four toilet rolls to make my tree hut stand off the ground. Ms. Yumul glued them so they would stick together. I made a window and door to get inside. On the ground I made a special garden out of polystyrene sticks and they looked pretty. I loved painting my hut. It was so much fun.
