Swimming Lessons

Last term me and my classmates went for swimming lessons. The boys had to go swimming first, and the girls went last. Each day we went to the bus outside and the driver drove us to the pools. Sometimes it was cold when we went but I had my warm swimming robe.

At the pools we had to get into groups. I had Sione, Patrick, Cosma and Ion in my group. On the first day I was very scared and I didn’t want to get into the pool. The teacher was kind to me and then on the third day I went in and enjoyed it. Mrs Yumul told Mrs Agnew how I was brave and I got 5 tallies.

I learned to float on my back with the board and the instructor helped me. I loved learning to swim and I hope I can have some more lessons soon.

Ki o rahi

Last Thursday coach Chelsea came to Room 6 to tell us about a Maori game called Ki o rahi. We are going to learn how to play it this term. We watched a movie about how Rahi saved Tiara from Patupaiarehe.

After that we went out under the canopy for a game. It was raining so we had to play there. We got into two teams and one was Taniwha and the other one was Kioma. It was fun. I am looking forward to learning how to play Ki o rahi this week. There are two teams and seven people in each team. We play with a small ball called a ki.

Making a tree hut

Last term Room 6 made tree huts. I brought ice cream containers and egg cartons to school to build my tree hut. I was very excited in the last week of term because we were going to build every single day of the week.

At the beginning I decided to glue two ice cream containers together to make a big square. Mrs Yumul helped me with the glue gun because it gets very hot and dangerous for children.

After that I used four toilet rolls to make my tree hut stand off the ground. Ms. Yumul glued them so they would stick together. I made a window and door to get inside. On the ground I made a special garden out of polystyrene sticks and they looked pretty. I loved painting my hut. It was so much fun.

About me

Kamusta everybody. My name is Roland and l go to St Patrick’s School. Also l’m 9 years old. I live with my parents and my brother and my sister. I was born in New Zealand but my culture is Filipino. I’m a year 4 student and I like to play math games. My teacher is Mrs Agnew.

I am good at tennis because it is my favourite sport at school. I am good at reading but I am going to try to read more books this year. Sometimes Maths is hard for me but I am going to ask the teacher for more help this year.

My sister inspires me because she helps me and is always kind. She sometimes picks me up from school. This year I hope I can come to school everyday and not be home, sick. I like being with my friends.
